Fairway Oaks

Fairway Oaks

Fairway Oaks is conveniently centrally located, close to both St. Joseph’s / Candler Hospital and Memorial Medical University Hospital, I-16 and Truman Parkway. Residents can be either Downtown or Southside within minutes.
Fairway Oaks homes were mostly built in the late 1940s through the early 1960s. Most Fairway Oaks homes boast hardwood floors throughout and energy-efficient brick construction. Architectural styles in the neighborhood vary but are predominately Ranch-style or Split-level in the Colonial Revival, Contemporary and Modern styles.
Fairway Oaks properties generally come with large, well-landscaped lots (many of the residents are avid gardeners) with generously-sized front and back yards accented by beautiful old-growth trees. The popular Bacon Park Golf Courseis adjacent to Fairway Oaks. Golfers are particularly keen on the neighborhood as a result: many properties’ back yards overlook the well-maintained and attractively designed golf course.
Fairway Oaks was designed thoughtfully and creatively, with gently curving neighborhood lanes, cozy cul-de-sacs and a few divided roadways with tree-dotted medians, breaking away from the traditional “pre-war” grid-like pattern of streets.
The Fairway Oaks Association, one of the earliest such homeowner associations in Savannah, is recognized at the state level and remains very active within the neighborhood and the local community at large. Association representatives regularly attend city planning meetings, send out newsletters, plan holiday events, and strive to preserve the character of the neighborhood that residents love.
Residents in Fairway Oaks range from retirees who have raised families in the neighborhood and settled in happily for decades to brand new families with children, and they all tend to be very friendly, helpful, and welcoming to new neighbors. There is a very active Neighborhood Watch and the neighborhood has no throughfares (outlets to busy nearby roadways were sealed off in the 1980s), which joggers, walkers, bicyclists and parents of playful young ones appreciate.
The Fairway Oaks neighborhood / Greenview Historic District are known as “the first Mid-Modern subdivision listed in the National Register in the state of Georgia.”
